I am Dr. Ron Allen and welcome to HoloReset Nutrition, where I am going to help you RESET your biology, mindset, emotional and spiritual health, with authentic science-based information and cutting edge nutritional supplements.
I’d like to share my personal journey, the adversity and challenges, and the wonderful health and life lessons that I have learned.
I am still a practicing Lasik Surgeon. I have performed over 55,000 eye surgeries over the last 30 years. They include 40,000 LASIK procedures but also cataract surgery with intraocular lenses, refractive lens exchange, other corneal refractive procedures, eyelid surgeries, strabismus (crossed eyes) surgeries, glaucoma surgeries, retinal lasers, and eye trauma repair. In addition, I provided medical eye care for thousands of patients covering a wide range of conditions.
My special gift is providing health and life information from an authentic perspective, as one who shares your journey and understands the real pain and frustration of mental, physical, and emotional challenges. My MD training and 20 years passionately pursuing holistic well-being and natural health, allows me to share strategies that have scientific support and will make a difference in your life.
I grew up in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin; a small paper mill town on the Wisconsin River. I had wonderful loving parents, though money was limited by my dad’s occupation as a lab technician in the paper mill. I was the only member of my family to play sports or attend college.
Although school came easy, I was very insecure, and felt I did not measure up -- except when it came to basketball. I still wonder what my path in life would have been if I had not excelled.
The memory of scoring 20 points in a game on the sophomore team changed my perspective forever. In disbelief, I kept rechecking the scoring sheet over and over -- as in my limited mindset, I felt only winners ever scored 20 points -- and that certainly was not me.
A switch was turned on! Despite limited athletic ability, (knock knees, flat-fee and all), I became a 2-time all-conference player and set conference shooting records.
My success was a huge deal for my aging parents. They never missed a game, home or away. They recorded every radio broadcast and would listen to replays together in the partially finished basement in our small home. My dad saved press clippings from every game.
During college, two huge events occurred… At age 19 I began dating my wife Jody. We have now been together for 40 years. The other event, I applied and was accepted to medical school at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
Medical school went extremely well and I was selected to the elite Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society after my third year of medical school. I received my Ophthalmology residency training at the highly regarded Medical College of Wisconsin Eye Institute. I am forever grateful for the amazing training that I received.
In 1993, I opened my own practice. It grew to 3 offices, provided comprehensive ophthalmology services, but specialized in refractive eye surgery. I was fortunate to participate in the FDA monitored clinical trials for one of the excimer laser systems. This allowed me to perform Lasik prior to FDA approval and be one of the first 100 or so surgeons In the United States to do so.
AND THEN DIABETES
Near the end of 1997, I awoke during the night several days in a row needing to use the bathroom. Aware of my family history of diabetes, I purchased a glucometer (a blood sugar tester).
Both of my parents developed Type 2 diabetes in their 60’s. They did not talk about it often -- but I do remember occasionally hearing my Dad sobbing quietly in his bed from neuropathy pain.
However, my brother Jim, 9 years older, developed Insulin dependent diabetes at age 9. I remember him taking multiple shots daily and having frequent insulin reactions from low blood sugar. I was with Jim when he underwent his first retina laser treatment for diabetic retinopathy; the same kind that I would perform on so many patients in my ophthalmology practice many years later.
Jim lived in Verona with his amazing wife Kitty, only a few miles outside of Madison where I was attending medical school. Jody and I would frequently get together with them for dinner. Truly great times.
And then I got the horrific call. Jim at age 32 had suffered a terrible stroke. He remained in a coma for 5 months, and did not leave the hospital for 8 months. It was heart breaking listening to my parents call to Jim with his childhood nickname—as if that might bring him out of the coma.
Jim did eventually make it home but was never the same. Unable to work again, he required an aide to be with him when Kitty was at work. Blind in one eye, partially paralyzed on one side, he later required bypass surgery and a kidney transplant. Kitty supplied the kidney!! Despite it all, Jim was resilient, laughed much, and enjoyed the life he was given.
I remember the I decided to test my own blood sugar. I had put it off for as long as I could. Sitting in my favorite chair in our family room, I pricked my finger and tested my blood. It was 476 -- a horrible blood sugar!!! I too was now a diabetic.
Within a week, I had the medical school and best local hospital provide me with hundreds of pages of clinical study abstracts related to diabetes, supplements, nutrition, inflammation, and oxidation.
Despite the American Diabetes Association recommending a 70 percent carbohydrate diet, I adopted a low carb diet 20 years ago. I became obsessed with using nutrition and supplements to reduce glycation, oxidation, and inflammation. For several years, I even imported supplements from Germany as some were not available in reasonable doses in the US.
While traditional medicine may have laughed at the role that lifestyle and nutritional changes made back then… to date, I have no complications and am fit and full of energy.
Just as I felt life was back on course…
Shortly after my diabetes diagnosis, I was shocked to find out that my practice had been embezzled and horribly mismanaged. I had limited personal resources and they were quickly liquidate. Enormous personally guaranteed balk loans, plus tax liabilities took almost a decade to resolve while working 6 days per week.
Both my brother Jim and his wife, Kitty, passed away during that period. In addition we were dealing with other family members declining with dementia and loss of independence. On top of that was 9/11 and the great recession of 2008!
Life seemed exhausting. Though physically healthy, life was not fulfilling.
I started wondering if the Jack Nicholson movie, "As Good As It Gets" was it for me.
Most of us would rather die than quit and often foolishly see changing course as surrender. Achieving our goals or basing success on external validation drives us. That however, is very fragile ground on which to base our happiness.
Fortunately, I decided to embrace change and create a life consistent with my values, one that I would truly love. I began an obsessive journey to find answers and restore hope. I read voraciously and attended tremendous live events. I found experts, mentors, and coaches I could trust.
As a result of my journey, my faith grew exponentially and is now central to my life. Nothing provides more hope and peace.
While HoloReset is indeed a company focused on optimal physical health and amazing nutritional supplements, that is not all that we are focused on...
As I personally experienced, possessing physical health, without both a functioning optimal mindset and a healthy emotional and spiritual outlook, does not lead to a fulfilling life.
On an airplane, the flight attendant instructs parents to place the oxygen masks on themselves, BEFORE placing them on their children, should an emergency occur.
Likewise, you need to prioritize and create time and habits to maximize YOUR physical, emotional, and spiritual health.
I am not talking about creating a narcissistic life of poisonous self-absorption. If you ignore your health, your life will be shortened. In addition, you will perform sub-optimally in every role of your life. Everything you care about will suffer!
2. PHYSICAL HEALTH ALONE WILL NOT LEAD TO A FULFILLED LIFE
Even if you are following a healthy diet and exercise program, and I certainly hope you are, that will not be enough to create a great life. You also need to model best practices to reduce stress, and optimize your mindset and emotional health. Only then will you leave the legacy for which you were created.
3. NURTURING YOUR MIND, BODY, AND SOUL IS A SIGN OF WISDOM AND STRENGTH
Making tough decisions and embracing change -- even positive change -- requires courage. Ignoring the critical elements that let you impact the world is not being selfless, it’s being foolish, short sighted, and weak. Too weak to act.
4. WISDOM PRINCIPLES ARE TIMELESS -- IT’S THE DISTINCTIONS THAT YOU ACT ON DAILY THAT CHANGE YOUR LIFE
Many fools spend their time chasing shiny objects, something new, promises of vast reward with no or little effort. The fact is most life success and health principles have been known for Millenia. The problem is that we often have heard these principles so many times, that we often ignore them. We do not value them.
The key is to be open to going beyond superficial knowledge and actually ACTING on strategies that can make a difference. One little pearl of wisdom, practiced daily, can forever improve your life.
Take my recommendations that resonate with you, and ACT on them daily!
5. THE QUICKEST LEAST PAINFUL WAY TO SUCCESS IN ANYTHING IS TO FIND MENTORS WITH INTEGRITY THAT HAVE FOUND THE RIGHT PATH, AND DO WHAT THEY DO
Tony Robbin’s has preached this for decades. I still remember being impacted by his book from decades ago “Awaken the Giant Within”.
While an amazing motivational speaker and coach, one of his core messages is to find mentors that know how to succeed in the area that you are struggling with. Do not reinvent the wheel. Instead shorten the journey.
This is critical advice for anyone truly committed to a RESET of their biology, mindset, and spiritual health. Hopefully you will find ME a valuable mentor.
I DO NOT PROVIDE MEDICAL ADVICE OR TELEMEDICINE.
While I am an MD, I am providing health information. For medical advice and care, you need to work with your own health care provider.
Remember that your doctor is your partner. If you have any medical conditions, make sure to inform him/her if you are going to start a nutritional supplement or change your diet drastically.
WHO WILL LOVE HOLORESET:
If you are over 45, and an overweight, out of shape, stressed, frustrated achiever -- we are very likely going to make a huge impact on your life.
WHO WILL NOT LIKE HOLORESET:
Chronic whiners, excuse makers, those unwilling to change, those who see no need to change, those unwilling to act, and those easily offended, probably will not be very happy with me.
I am warm, friendly, empathetic, and compassionate but I also can be direct. Sometimes tough love requires telling you what you do not want to hear, even if it upsets you initially.
WHY DID I CREATE HOLORESET AT THIS POINT IN MY LIFE?
Over time, I found myself sharing nutrition and health tips more often with patients, family, friends, friends of friends, colleagues and staff. I found that I felt very alive and fulfilled when I shared information that I knew was going to make a positive impact in their lives. I now feel compelled to share what I have learned on a larger scale.
Maybe it's simply age and maturity, but I look at the real measure of my life being, I ask myself this question... Did I Make A Difference In the Lives of Others?
Medicine has always allowed me to do so. But I am now committed to sharing my life, health, and nutrition lessons with you.
I desperately want to make an impact in YOUR life... shortening your journey... and RESETTING your biology, mindset, and spiritual health.
You deserve a life filled once again with HOPE and POSSIBILITY!
